Aragonez (also known as Tinto Roriz)
Grape Colour: Red
Grape Region: Alentejano, Beiras, Douro
DOC: Alentejo, Dão, Douro
The Romans introduced this grape to the Iberian Peninsula. The grape is black in colour with a thick skin and produces a deep coloured, concentrated wine. The grape grows in compact bunches and has a colourless pulp. It prefers a cooler climate. When this grape is grown at a higher altitude, it produces an elegant wine with high acidity. The vine favours limestone but will adapt to grow on clay in the right circumstances.
