Beiras
The Beiras is a large region stretching from Porto in the north west to the border with Alentejo in its south eastern corner. It’s hot with added protection from the Serra da Estrella to the west, Portugal’s highest point, at 1993m. This central position offers a continental influenced climate giving great heat during the day but allowing the temperatures to drop at night. The soils are predominantly granite and schist. The main grapes from this area are Malvasia Fina, Arinto, Gouveia, Marufo, Rufete, Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Touriga Francisca. Our producer is based in the Beira Interior at Carvalhal Formoso.
