Dão
Dão is a small area tucked between the hills of Caramulo and Buçaco to the west, with the mountain ranges of Lapa, Leomil, Nave and Cascalheira to the north and the Serra da Estrella, Portugal’s highest point, to the east and south. The soil is mostly granite which at lower levels decomposes into coarse sand. Generally, Dão has cold, wet winters but mild, dry summers. The grapes are Malvasia Fina, Encruzado, Verdelho, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Roriz, Trincadeira. Our producer is based close to Nelas.
