Douro
The Douro is in north eastern Portugal, just south of Vinho Verde. Over the centuries, the landscape has been deeply carved by the River Douro and its many tributaries into one of the most naturally beautiful places we have ever seen. The vineyards rise steeply from the river on terrace after terrace which are supported by exquisite stone walls and the roots of the immaculately tended vines. Many varieties of grapes are grown here but the major grapes in our wines are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão, Tinta Roriz, Trincadeira, Tinta Francisca, Rufete, Malvasia Fina, Fernão Pires, Gouveia. The region is sheltered from Atlantic winds by the Marão and Montemuro mountains. It has a continental climate with dry summers and cold winters. Our producers are based in São João da Pesqueira and Pinhão.
