Ribatejano
The Ribatejo is located north east of Lisbon, close to the wide, flat, fertile plains created by the River Tejo on its way south west to Lisbon’s spectacular estuary. The climate and the geographical conditions vary across the region from the rich, alluvial soils of the plain to the dry, hot, sandy soil south of the river. The wines we have chosen come from Tomar, the most northerly of the six sub regions. This region rises to the north and away from the fertile plain. Here the soil is poor, making the vines struggle to seek nourishment in the dry schist. Due to the variations in soil and climate, the DOC regulations allow a fairly wide range of grape varieties.
